Yacht Charter in Malta with Click&Boat

Malta is one of the smallest countries in Europe, located just south of Sicily and above the North African coast. The archipelago consists of three main islands: Malta, Gozo, and Comino. This small country in the Mediterranean Sea is characterised by its unspoiled beauty and wilderness, surrounded by glistening blue waters.

This makes visiting Malta a paradise for those getting to know it through a boat rental holiday. So book your Malta yacht charter and experience one of the most popular European summer destinations.

Valletta Waterfront, one of the most captivating piers in the country, doubles as the island's most important port. This is not only due to its strategic location in the capital, but also because it has operated for over 260 years. Other prominent ports are Portomaso, the Kalkara Marina and the Mgarr Marina. In addition, the island boasts hidden coves and serene beaches that offer peace and tranquillity, perfect for watching colourful sunsets away from the tourist frenzy.

What are you waiting for? Embark on your dream boat charter in Malta and start creating unforgettable memories!

What type of boat is best for Malta?

Choosing the best type of boat for Malta depends on various factors, including personal preferences, and budget. We still recommend these three different boats which will suit the most sailing in Malta, with their typical capacity and cabin configurations:

Motorboats:

  • Capacity: 4-12+ passengers
  • Cabins: Limited or none, but larger yachts may have 1–4 cabins.

Sailboats:

  • Capacity: 2-10+ passengers
  • Cabins: Typically 1–4 cabins, depending on size.

Catamarans:

  • Capacity: 6-12+ passengers
  • Cabins: Generally 3–6 cabins, offering more space and comfort.

How much does it cost to charter a yacht in Malta?

In Malta, boat rental prices are influenced by various factors. Seasonality is key, with rates peaking in summer and decreasing during off-peak times. Longer rental durations generally offer better daily rates. Catamarans, known for their luxury, tend to be pricier compared to sailboats and motorboats. Additional services like hiring a skipper or extra crew members, as well as onboard extras, can increase costs.

Below are some average boat rental prices in Malta by boat type:

Motorboat

Starting from an average of €300/day in low season and €350/day in high season.

RIB

Starting from an average of €350/day in low season and €475/day in high season.

Motor Yacht

Starting from an average of €1.600/day in low and high season.

Sailboat

Starting from an average of €200/day in low and high season.

Catamaran

Starting from an average of €800/day in low and high season.

Gulet

Starting from an average of €800/day in low and €1,050/day in high season.

What is included in the cost?

In addition to the base rental cost, extra expenses such as fuel, skipper fees, crew wages, and equipment rentals like water sports gear can further impact the total price. Fuel expenses are influenced by factors such as distance travelled and engine usage. Hiring a skipper or crew members for assistance or guidance incurs additional charges. Water sports equipment like snorkelling gear or jet skis may be available for rent onboard, adding to the overall cost.

These supplementary expenses vary depending on the rental provider and specific services requested, so it's advisable to clarify all potential costs upfront when arranging your boat rental.

What season is the best to charter a boat in Malta?

The best season for boat rental in Malta is typically during the summer months, from June to September. During this time, the weather is warm, and the sea is generally calm, providing ideal conditions for boating and water activities. The peak tourist season in Malta is July and August, so booking your boat rental in advance is important to secure availability.

That said, Malta enjoys a Mediterranean climate, and the weather remains mild throughout the year. If you prefer quieter periods with fewer tourists, consider visiting in the shoulder seasons of late spring (April to May) or early autumn (September to October). During these times, you can still enjoy pleasant weather and have a good chance of finding boat rentals, albeit with fewer crowds.

Where to charter a boat in Malta?

Despite its small size, Malta is very easily accessible! Of course, the most popular way to reach Malta is by flying directly to the Malta International Airport. Also referred to as the Valletta Airport, this is the only airport in Malta and serves all Maltese Islands. It can be found 5 km southwest of Valletta, the capital city of Malta.

If you plan on flying to access your Maltese boat rental, many cities offer direct flights to Malta. However, you can also take a ferry to arrive at your boat rental in Malta! Ferries to Malta sail from Sicily, Salerno, and the Maltese island Gozo. Depending on the route you choose to take, the trip can take between 45 minutes and 26 hours.

Where to sail in Malta?

Malta is a true sailing paradise. It has plenty to offer for all tastes and interests. So whether you want a Malta boat rental for a day trip or a week-long getaway, raise the anchor and discover this extraordinary treasure in the Mediterranean.

As a popular destination for predominantly European travellers, Malta boasts several churches, museums, theatres, and colourful wooden fishing boats called Luzzus. The ancient capital of Mdina and the city of St. Paul are popular with tourists with its old walls, medieval, baroque architecture, and quaint atmosphere. Maltese cuisine shares similarities with Italian and Greek cuisines. Valletta also has a large harbour, making it a great starting point for nautical explorations and yacht charters to visit nearby islands.

Malta's Paradise beaches

The Paradise Bay

The northern end of the main island of Malta is home to Paradise Bay Beach, a beautiful spot for snorkelling with stunning views of Comino and Gozo. Adventure seekers will love the natural caves, while weekend beach parties attract young tourists.

The Golden Bay

If you want to relax with your Malta yacht rental, Golden Bay is the ideal place to visit. The beach boasts fine sands and picturesque rocks and is surrounded by small restaurants and cafés offering the best food on the coast.

Ghajn Tuffieha Bay

Not far from Golden Bay is Ghajn Tuffieha Bay. This cove is less crowded than other beaches. The beach is narrow, but an excellent snorkelling area exists to explore the underwater world and its native marine life. Rent a boat in Sliema and visit the neighbouring islands first.

The small island of Comino is a popular destination for those looking for day trips. Especially famous is the Blue Lagoon, located between the island of Malta and Gozo. This cove offers the clearest waters in the region. Being one of the most popular destinations in the country, it is usually crowded during the weekends.

Crystal Lagoon, right next door, is usually more deserted because it doesn't have a beach, perfect for arriving by boat and taking a nice swim.

Only half an hour's crossing from Malta is Gozo, an island rising out of the sea with green hills and steep slopes—a true paradise for divers, cyclists and adventurers. The coastal landscape offers magnificent views over the clear turquoise sea.

What is there to discover in Gozo?

Through a small entrance, you arrive at Xlendi Bay. Beach goers love it, so anchor your boat rental a short distance from the beach. This beautiful bay invites you to a day of snorkelling and sunbathing. If you want to stretch your legs, you can walk to the Xlendi Tower and the impressive sandstone rocks.

Another good anchorage, which is also suitable for staying overnight, is Dwejra Bay. This cove is ideal for swimming and diving. The best place to dive is through the beautiful sea caves under the Blue Window. You can also easily walk over the rock formations from the beach to this beautiful natural monument.

Ramla Bay is a third bay that is a must-stop with a Malta boat hire. It is located about one nautical mile to the east. The beach has reddish parts of sand, which is why the locals gave it the name: Red Sand Beach. An excellent experience for a sailing holiday!

Renting a boat with or without a skipper?

Bareboat charter in Malta:

If you have a valid sailing licence, a bareboat yacht rental in Malta is the best way to take the helm! With a bareboat, you can enjoy an authentic sailing experience where you can navigate, dock, and anchor the vessel on your own, feeling the rush of the wind and the waves.

Conditions/Requirements of Renting Without a Skipper in Malta:

  • Sailing Experience: Renters must possess sufficient sailing experience and qualifications.
  • Navigation Skills: Proficiency in navigation and local waterways is essential.
  • Liability Waivers: Renters are typically required to sign agreements assuming responsibility for the vessel and passengers.

Benefits of Renting with a Skipper:

  • Safety: Skippers ensure safe navigation and handling, especially in unfamiliar waters.
  • Expertise in Destinations: They offer local insights, guiding you to the best spots and attractions.

Malta's best location. Central and close to all amenities, best restaurants and hotels. Public transport serves the area well. and there are various entertainment spots in the area. Once you leave the marina, you are quickly out in the open sea. and this saves you at least 30 minutes to get to the favorite beaches.

Malta is a lovely place to spend 4-5 days. Make sure you go to see Gozo and Camino. Recommend you visit Valetta and Mdina and also do a private tour see the islands (instead of a public tour). The food is also amazing in Malta so we can’t recommend it enough

Lovely weather, great food and sites. Would recommend the intercontinental hotel, bars and restaurant. We rented a boat which was well worth it. Good for couples, groups or family's. Try to see the other islands if you can you won't regret it. The people are friendly too and it's easy to get around.
