Yacht charter in Amsterdam with Click&Boat

There’s a reason why Amsterdam has been coined the “Venice of the North”, and the best way to discover it is by boat. Amsterdam in the Netherlands is a charming metropolis decorated with a labyrinth-like canal network just waiting to be explored. With a yacht charter in Amsterdam, you can navigate various canal routes like Plantation Route and the world-famous Red Light District Route all while viewing traditional Dutch architecture and quaint bridges which connect different sides of the city. If you want to take a break from the urban atmosphere, you can take your boat rental to sail in the freshwater lakes of Markermeer and Marker Wadden, or if you fancy some island hopping you can dart around to islands like Westelijke and Oosteljike. What are you waiting for? Fall in love with the beautiful city of Amsterdam from a boat!

What can you see and do on a boat rental in Amsterdam?

Amsterdam is a city which is largely characterised by water, making it the perfect place for a boat rental. See the city from the water to take full advantage of everything that Amsterdam has to offer. There’s something for everyone in the Dutch capital: culture, art, nightlife and nature are all at your fingertips and because there’s so much to do, it can be hard to know where to start! Luckily we’re here to help you fill up your Amsterdam sailing itinerary with some of our bucket list activities and must-see attractions.

  • Ponder the sight of hundreds of houseboats floating on the canals and over 1,500 bridges, which is four times as many as in Venice! For more houseboats, visit the Houseboat Museum where you can learn about what it is like to live full time on the water!
  • Learn about history during WW2 at the Anne Frank House and understand the mark that Nazi Occupation made on the country.
  • Sunbathe on the golden sand at Amsterdam’s beach, Zandvoort aan Zee.
  • Marvel at the art and culture in the city at museums like Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh Museum.
  • See the iconic windmills at the Zaanse Schans and if you have time, visit the small fishing village of Volendam and tour the Cheese Factory.
  • Discover Jordaan, one of the trendiest neighbourhoods in the city with a wide array of cafes, restaurants and shops to visit. There are also many beautiful courtyards where you can stop and chat with locals!
  • Experience the iconic nightlife in the city at the Red Light District or “De Wallen” where you’ll find bars, clubs and the oldest profession in the world.
  • Cruise around the Amsterdam Canal Belt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site!
  • Take a day trip to the tiny romantic village of Muiden, best known for the Ijsselmeer Lake and its gorgeous castle
  • Exercise your sea legs and go on a bike tour around the city. You’ll start to feel like a local after a few kilometres, and you’ll learn about the city on land.

What is the best time to rent a boat in Amsterdam?

With an oceanic climate, Amsterdam is warm in the summer and cold in the winter. If you are considering a boat rental in Amsterdam, the best time to visit would be in the springtime between March and May. At this time the weather will be pleasant with an average of 12°C and low humidity and precipitation, the perfect conditions for sailing out on the water! The best thing about sailing in the spring is that it’s tulip season in Amsterdam, and what better way to see these colourful flowers than from a boat!

Enjoy a luxury holiday with a skippered yacht charter in Amsterdam

Want a worry-free holiday with an all-inclusive feel? Consider a boat rental in Amsterdam that includes a skipper and/ or crew on board. Although skippered vessels are typically more expensive than bareboats, the extra cost includes peace of mind knowing that you’re sailing in the safe hands of an expert sailor who will handle everything from navigating the vessel to docking and anchoring. Skippers are usually locals and they know the area very well, allowing them to take you to all of your wish list destinations and if you’re lucky, a few hidden gems! They can give you recommendations about where to go and what to do while in Amsterdam, and they can take you to places that you won’t find on travel websites.

What type of boat is best for an Amsterdam yacht charter?

At Click&Boat we have a large fleet of vessels in Amsterdam ready for charter. If you’re considering a yacht charter but unsure of which type of boat to choose, it’s important to think about the duration of your time on board. For a short trip of a day or two, we recommend a daily charter such as a motorboat or a RIB. For longer rentals, it’s best to choose a vessel with enough space to accommodate everyone on board, as well as all of the amenities you’ll need to make your stay more comfortable. Houseboats are the most classic option, great for navigating the intricate canal network in the city and they're usually equipped with heating on board, so you can visit Amsterdam in the off-season!

Beautiful city, light festival was interesting and light-full. A lot of lights on the houses, hotels, streets and shops. Very nice Christmas atmosphere (but keep in mind there is no Christmas markets like in Germany). Iceskating of a good quality (unfortunately weather conditions were not very good so we didn’t want to skate during the heavy rein).

Beautiful city with lots of great options! Check out the Artis route too :). It is best to go with a boat you can actually manouvre easily in the centre. Make sure you bring a sunhat or raincoat in case you get caught in surprising weather. All in all there couldnt be a better way to experience Amsterdam.

It's a nice city with lots of canals and waterways. It's nice for a trip by boat, but you need to be careful with inexperienced motorboat drivers or harsh tourist boats. Anyway lovely city.
