Myths, legends and history come together and weave the amazing present of the island. According to Greek mythology, Zeus-Zeus, the father of the gods grew up in a cave on Mount Zas (Zas means Zeus in the old local language). Dionysus, god of parties and wine, met a local girl, fell in love with her and thus blessed the island with vineyards and fertile land.
