If you are planning a sailing trip to the Aeolian Islands (the vulcanic archipelago composed by the seven stunning Vulcano, Lipari, Salina, Panarea, Stromboli, Alicudi and Filicudi) then Milazzo is the definitively the best port to embark from. Just 15 nautical miles from the first islands, this little town has great services, free parking in front of the marina and groceries for your galley.

Beautiful town and best to rent a boat from here to the islands seeing that it's the closest port. It's about a 40min cruise with a 40hp speedboat. Alternatively you can also take a ferry from here which takes 20 mins longer and is quite overcrowded with tourists. Do keep in mind that a ferry would be better if the sea on the day is not flat.
