Description of Luis Castro -'s sailboat
Sailboat G. L. Watson 55'' Wooden Ketch 17m
Halcyon is a 55 feet wooden motor sailor, built in Belem, Lisbon, in 1970. Designed in Scotland, by G. L. Watson & Co, it is the last of three boats, made under the same design. Wood is teak, from Goa, in India, weights 35 tons and still has the same, original, Leyland 0.400, six cylinder engines, as in 1970. We can take up to 18 guests on a day cruise and 6 guests overnight. Our daily program is a cruise from Lisbon to Cascais and back. Two and a half hours of sailing on each way, 3 hours on the anchor. From 10 am to 6 pm, lunch included. In cascais, you can go ashore for a walk, or stay on board. Up to 18 guests. A two days charter is a cruise to Cascais and back, up to 6 guests. For more than 3 days, we suggest a cruise to Arrabida Natural Park. Five and a half hours of navigation from Lisbon, Arrabida Natural Park has several places where one can drop the anchor for the night, has good restaurants and very nice beaches. On these cruises we serve a meal per day, on board, and suggest restaurants ashore for others. The program starts at 10 am, on the first day, and ends at 6 pm, on the final day. Up to 6 guests. Everything included(captain and mate+insurance+rib with engine+beach towels+diesel+breakfast+1 meal a day+mattresses+linen)

I've been sailing all my life, as I was born in Cascais, by the sea, one of the best sailing venues in the World. I have a passion for wooden boats, recovered a sailing barge and wrote a book on the Tagus River Sailing Barges in 2009. In 2010 I bought Halcyon I, a G. L. Watson & Co 55 feet wooden motor sailor, that has been my home, ever since. My project is to live one day at the time, keeping Halcyon I as good as I can, doing all jobs needed.
