They were expertized, capable and owned such a powerful navy that the Minoan cities had no need to build any kind of fortification for protection. The Minoan civilization is considered the only long-lasting peaceful civilization on earth. While a visit to Knossos reveals the significance of their uniquely intellectual, humanitarian yet robust achievements, this cruise offers you a taste of these achievements from another perspective – underwater ! Dia island is located about 7 nautical miles north of Heraklion. During the Minoan era the island was inhabited. The findings of Jacques Yves Cousteau in 1974, while searching for the lost Atlantis between Crete and Santorini, are of great archeological interest. Cousteau suggested that there stood one of the most important ports on the whole island of Crete. The harbour was sunk due to the destruction caused by the eruption of Santorini volcano (1450 BC) . You may still see the ruins while snorkeling around the place. The island is a NATURA protected area. The only available facilities are the port, a forestry shelter and a tiny, charming Chapel named Analipsis. TRIP TIMETABLE - 10:00 Departure from Heraklion port / 11:00 Arrival at Dia island The boat leaves Heraklion Venetian port, sailing north to Dia island. You can relax, get some suntan on the deck, or join the sailing procedure while getting eye – catching views of Heraklion from aboard and sensing the sea breeze on your skin. At Dia island you can enjoy swimming, fishing, snorkeling or just relax and continue sun tanning on deck. - 14.30: Lunch time The fresh, tasty meal is served on board together with fine local wine and a variety of soft drinks. - 16.00: Fruits served on board Enjoy seasonal fresh fruits and refreshments while slowly cruising back to Heraklion harbour. - 17.00: Departure from Dia island / 18:00 Arrival back at Heraklion port. Designed by the distinguished Rob Humphreys and provided with the German Lloyd GL Plus Certification, offers a highly compelling formula. The lines of the Elan Impression 514 are streamlined and elegant with luxurious touches throughout. The semi deck saloon opens into a magnificent space with overhead and side panoramic windows welcoming in plenty of natural light and excellent views. A powerful 115-hp Yanmar engine pushes the sailboat at eight to nine knots at 2500 rpm with truly little noise or vibration. Under power, she maneuvers like a yacht. The large three - bladed folding prop and powerful bow thruster make backing out of the slip a highly controlled affair. The enormous open cockpit area provides ample space and excellent comfort. The aft garage door opens easily serving as a large swimming platform and additional entertainment area. The 3 unfolding steps add even more entertainment space to the vast aft area. The retractable hydraulic Besenzoni 500 gangway provides easy access on and off the yacht. The electric mainsail which, an extra fridge, a BBQ grill and a sink on the cockpit offer the ultimate level of functionality and convenience. The forward sunbathing platform is huge as well and equipped with comfortable mattresses. The interior uses teak wood, stainless handholds, and intimate LED lighting. There are 3 separate A/C (+ heating) units supported by a powerful generator. The saloon is light and airy. The U-shaped dinette will seat up to 10 guests. The port settee has a small table with a hidden bottle and glass storage. There is also a radio / MP3 and a hidden flat TV that reveals electrically. The L-shaped galley is very well-appointed, fully equipped (side opening fridge with freezer, gas stove with oven, microwave oven, double sink), with plenty of storage space. There are five (4+1) cabins, two sets of ample double cabins at each end (forward and aft) and a crew cabin with two single bunk berths. There are also five (4+1) electric toilets with showers.
