Light Bottom Fishing at a Historic Shipwreck

Experience the thrill of fishing above a historic shipwreck in the northern Adriatic. This evening fishing trip combines local knowledge, authentic techniques, and a unique location rich in marine life. The tour typically departs from Lovran in the early evening and heads toward the waters near the town Medveja, home to the wreck of the ship Striker, a vessel that sank during the First World War. Departure time may vary slightly depending on the season and sunset hours, but trips generally begin around 6:00 PM, allowing guests to enjoy the calm atmosphere of evening fishing. Measuring about 70 meters in length and lying at depths between 59 and 63 meters, the wreck has become an artificial reef that attracts a wide variety of fish species. After arriving at the fishing spot, participants receive fishing rods equipped with strong Dracon lines, three hooks, and lead weights. The captain explains how to use the traditional local “Bulletin” bottom-fishing technique before the lines are dropped into the deep waters above the wreck. Bait varies depending on the season and may include sardines, squid, or mussels. Most catches typically range between 150 and 500 grams, though occasionally larger surprises appear, such as conger eels or other bigger fish.

Shipwrecks naturally create perfect habitats for marine life, offering shelter, feeding grounds, and breeding areas for many species. Over time, the Striker wreck has developed into a vibrant underwater ecosystem, making it an excellent fishing ground for both beginners and experienced anglers. The trip is guided by a local captain with extensive knowledge of the area and its fishing techniques, ensuring guests not only enjoy the experience but also learn the basics of Adriatic bottom fishing.
