What is the best time to visit Monaco?

Monaco has a temperate Mediterranean climate which is characterised by hot and dry summers and mild and wet winters. Therefore, the most popular times to visit Monaco are during the summer, although you can visit this country any time of the year. If you visit during the hottest month, you can expect around 28 degrees Celsius during the day. In contrast, the winters have average temperatures of 10 degrees Celsius. Our recommendation is to hire a boat in early or late summer, so you can get the best weather with fewer crowds.

What type of boat should you hire in Monaco?

With so many boats to choose from, it can be overwhelming to decide on the right vessel for your holiday. Thankfully, Click&Boat has filters that allow you to narrow your search and find the boat of your dreams. If you are travelling for a shorter period of time, and just want a simple boat that is fast, comfortable, and easy to navigate, then consider looking at our RIBs and motorboats. However, if you want to get an authentic sailing experience and potentially navigate along the French coast or farther, then a sailboat or catamaran sounds more viable. Ultimately, the choice is yours!

Should you hire a boat with or without a skipper?

If you want to explore Monaco at your own leisure, then it is possible to hire a boat without a skipper. However, keep in mind that you need to ensure that you meet the legal requirements and make sure that the boat owner approves of it.

This being said, there are many advantages to having a skipper on board with you. For example, they can add an extra level of comfort and safety, as they are professional sailors that can handle all the sailing, docking, and anchoring of the boat. Moreover, they will be familiar with the surrounding waters, so they can show you all the hidden places tourists don’t know about.

Where to dock your boat hire in Monaco

There are a few main ports within Monaco that you will want to keep in mind for your boat hire.

  • The largest port is Le Port Hercule, with up to 650 berths. This port is in the Condamine district and provides easy access to mooring services.
  • The Port of Fontvieille is the second largest with 160 berths, located in the residential area of Fontvieille.
  • If you are hiring a yacht, then Yacht Club Monaco is a smaller marina made for you. The YCM houses around 26 large yachts between 25 to 60 metres in length.

What to do in Monaco

Despite having an area of 2.1 kilometres squared, you may be surprised to know how much you can do in Monaco. Immerse yourself in the grandiose and luxurious world of Monaco with a boat hire for the experience of a lifetime!

If you don’t know where to begin, simply start walking around the Old Town of the country! You may come across the historic Cathedral of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception where the tombs of former princes of Monaco are buried. If you keep walking, you can also find the beautiful Prince’s Palace of Monaco. The building was built in 1191 as a Genoese fortress, but is now officially the residence of the royal family! You are invited to enter the palace and view the State Apartments to learn about the history of the city and view the intricate interior design. You can also take a stroll through the marvellous Zoological Gardens where you will witness a haven for exotic animals, many of which are endangered such as macaws, porcupines, and turtles.

It is impossible to think of Monaco without all the glitz and glam that comes with casinos and sports cars. For this reason, we recommend visiting the Monte Carlo Casino located in the centre of town. Even if you don’t play, the casino includes the Opera de Monte-Carlo and the office of Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. Simply walking through to witness the dazzling lights is a memorable experience. While there are fancy cars all throughout the year, you can visit the country in late May or early June to see the iconic Monaco Grand Prix. The annual Formula One racing event draws international crowds and a unique atmosphere.

Nearby destinations to travel to on your boat hire

One of the best parts about a boat hire in Monaco is that you can access nearby locations in minutes! The easiest destination is of course the French Riviera. You can glide seamlessly through the cerulean blue waters of the Mediterranean until you reach the beautiful Nice and discover some of the hidden coves along its coastline. Similarly, you can travel to Cannes, especially in the Spring for their annual film festival! Alternatively, you can head north towards Italy and explore Sanremo or Genoa! Despite their close proximity, these nearby cities are sure to surprise you with their different culture and unique beauty.

Monaco is a superb destination. Particular for yacht and water enthusiasts. The scenery is unparalleled and the dining options are limitless: Italian, Mediterranean, Spaniard and a French at its best. Shopping is an experience on its own with the best designer brands worldwide with flagship stores. Most importantly security is not even a concern with guards everywhere.

Monaco is a great place to 'set sail' from the scenery is beautiful and looking at all of the super yachts in the port is a treat. We also found the port very easy to navigate in and out of which made the whole experience simple and thus very enjoyable. We would definitely look to book again!

Love St. Tropez beautiful city with vibrant night life. Actually picked up in Monte Carlo but was able to see the world of St. Tropez on the boat. Super yachts are fun to watch when you’re in the city. The water is crystal clear and the people are friendly. Will visit again!
