We had an amazing 4 hours trip to Formentera! We received a free upgrade which was a beautiful surprize for us and the boat was amazing - very clean, very comfortable, lot of space and also Alfredo our skipper was very kind and took as to the most beautiful places in Formentera! I would definitely recommend this and for sure we will book again next time when beeing in Ibiza again!

Maximilian was a fantastic client from start to finish. Very friendly, punctual and respectful throughout the whole charter. Communication was smooth and easy, and he treated the boat with great care. He rented the Glastron for a 4-hour trip together with his companion and also enjoyed the wakeboard experience — it was great to see them having such a good time on board. We would be more than happy to welcome Maximilian again anytime in Ibiza. Highly recommended client!

Joan was a good communicator whilst book and the day before the event so we knew exactly where to go and what to expect. He was a fantastic host on the day and helped us enjoy that experience without getting too involved. Stopped off for a swim and then off to illetes for lunch. After lunch another stop off in the way back for arrival at exactly 8hrs. He wasn't rushing us to get off and allowed us to finish our beers. A party of 7 x 55+ year old guys. Everyone said they had a great day.

Rent a boat in Ibiza with Click&Boat

Ibiza is far more than its reputation as a party island. Located in the Balearic Islands, alongside Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera, it stands out from the water in a completely different light: ochre cliffs dropping into turquoise sea, wild coves accessible only by boat and exceptional underwater visibility. Ibiza and neighboring Formentera have also been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999, recognized in part for their Posidonia seagrass meadows, among the best preserved in the Mediterranean. Whether you're planning a family day trip, an escape to Formentera or a week-long cruise at your own pace, a boat rental in Ibiza opens up a side of the Mediterranean that most visitors never see.

The sailing season runs from April to October, with sea temperatures reaching 79°F (26°C) at the height of summer. Departing from Ibiza Marina, Botafoch, Sant Antoni or Santa Eulalia, choose from catamarans, motorboats, RIBs, sailboats, yachts or boats without a license, with or without a skipper, to suit your experience and plans.

What types of boats are available in Ibiza?

With 1907 boats available in Ibiza, Click&Boat covers every profile and budget:

  • Sailboat: an authentic, quiet way to sail, popular with sailing enthusiasts.
  • Catamaran: space and stability, ideal for groups and families of up to 25 people.
  • Motorboat: perfect for hopping between coves in a single day.
  • RIB: practical for a quick run to Formentera or a snorkeling trip.
  • Jet ski: for a short excursion full of thrills.
  • Yacht: the ultimate comfort for multi-day cruises, with crew if needed.
  • Boat without a license: accessible to everyone, with a maximum engine power of 15 hp.

Every boat can be hired with or without a skipper, depending on your level of experience. Have a special occasion to celebrate? A boat rental in Ibiza is also perfect for a birthday, a bachelorette party or a private evening at sea, departing from the marina of your choice.

Rent a boat in Ibiza with or without a skipper

Want to enjoy the island without worrying about navigation? Opt for a boat rental in Ibiza with a skipper and let a professional guide you to the finest anchorages, secret coves and best snorkeling spots. A local skipper knows the hidden places you would never find alone, handles all maneuvers and adapts the route to your preferences throughout the day.

Budget between €180 and €300 per day for this service, depending on the boat type and duration. It is the ideal option for a group, for a first experience sailing the Mediterranean or simply to enjoy the trip without any constraints.

Prefer to take the helm yourself? That's entirely possible with a bareboat rental in Ibiza. In Spain, a license is then required for any motorboat over 15 hp (no formalities below that power); a US boating license or equivalent is generally accepted, though it's worth confirming recognition with the rental company before booking. But honestly, with a skipper on board, no license is needed at all, regardless of your nationality.

Where to rent a boat in Ibiza?

Several marinas offer excellent facilities and a wide range of boats for all budgets and group sizes:

  • Ibiza Marina (formerly Puerto Deportivo), in the historic center of Ibiza Town facing Dalt Vila, is the ideal departure point for exploring the south of the island and sailing to Formentera. It offers a wide selection of yachts and motorboats, many available with a skipper.
  • Marina Botafoch, in the upscale district of Ibiza Town, is the reference marina for premium charters. Its lively atmosphere and high-quality services make it a popular base for multi-day cruises.
  • Sant Antoni de Portmany, on the west coast, is the most convenient departure point for reaching the finest coves of the western coastline and the legendary sunsets of Cap Nunó.
  • Santa Eulalia, on the east coast, is the most family-friendly and peaceful marina on the island, well-suited to day trips in a relaxed setting.

Where to sail around Ibiza?

Formentera

The unmissable destination from Ibiza is Formentera. Less than an hour by boat from Ibiza Town or Sant Antoni, this small island with its crystal-clear waters feels more like the Caribbean than the Mediterranean. The anchorage at Playa de ses Illetes, in the north of the island, is one of the finest in the Mediterranean: white sand, shallow turquoise water and a relaxed atmosphere far from the crowds. Allow a full day to make the most of it, or stay overnight at anchor if your boat allows.

The wild coves of the west coast

The west coast of Ibiza is home to some of the most spectacular spots that can only be reached by sea. Cala d'Hort, facing the mysterious islet of Es Vedrà, is one of the island's most iconic anchorages: this 1,253-foot (382-meter) volcanic rock rising from the sea is a breathtaking sight, particularly at sunset. Cala Bassa and Cala Conta are two other fine-sand coves slightly more accessible but just as beautiful, easily reached from Sant Antoni.

The east coast and hidden coves

The less-visited east coast has plenty to offer. Cala Aubarca, reachable only on foot or by sea, is one of the wildest coves on the island, framed by red cliffs and dense vegetation. Cala Sa Caleta, in the southwest, combines a stunning cove with one of the four sites that make up Ibiza's UNESCO listing, its Phoenician archaeological settlement, among the earliest evidence of habitation on the island. For a week-long cruise, a classic itinerary departs from Ibiza Town, follows the southern coastline towards Formentera, heads north along the east coast to Santa Eulalia, crosses to the north of the island and returns via the west coast past Es Vedrà.

When is the best time to rent a boat in Ibiza?

Ibiza is one of the sunniest islands in the Mediterranean, with over 300 days of sunshine a year. The best time to rent a boat is between April and October, when the sea is calm, winds are moderate and days are long and sunny.

  • Spring (April–June): Mild weather, fewer crowds and excellent sailing conditions.
  • Summer (July–August): Peak season, with the sea reaching 79°F (26°C), a vibrant atmosphere and the best water sports conditions. It's also one of the driest periods of the year, with less than 2 days of rain a month. Since this is likely a longer trip for US travelers, booking your boat well in advance is strongly recommended, ideally alongside your flights, and planning to set off early to reach the best coves before the crowds arrive.
  • Fall (September–October): The sea stays warm, anchorages are quieter and the light is exceptional, making this one of the best times to visit.
  • Winter (November–March): Cooler, with fewer boats available around the island. This is also when rainfall is most frequent, peaking at around 5 to 6 rainy days a month in November, and when the Tramuntana blows most often.

Weather in Ibiza

Ibiza has a Mediterranean climate, characterized by hot, dry summers and mild winters.

  • Summer temperatures: 70–86°F (21–30°C)
  • Spring & Fall: 61–75°F (16–24°C)
  • Winter: 54–61°F (12–16°C)
  • Sea temperature (summer): 77–79°F (25–26°C)

The island is occasionally affected by the Tramuntana, a cold north to north-westerly wind that can create choppy conditions, particularly along the north coast, with gusts that can exceed 62 mph (100 km/h). Always check the marine weather forecast before heading out, as rental companies may suspend departures when conditions are unsuitable.

Practical information

Fuel

Fuel is generally not included in the rental price for motorboats and RIBs. Most owners operate on a full-to-full basis: you collect the boat with a full tank and return it full. Fuel docks are available at all main marinas in Ibiza.

Parking

All main marinas in Ibiza offer parking nearby. In July and August spaces fill quickly: consider using peripheral lots and walking or taking a taxi to the marina. Marina Botafoch and Sant Antoni harbor have the largest parking areas on the island.

Getting to Ibiza

  • By plane: there are currently no non-stop flights from the US to Ibiza, so most routes connect through a major European hub such as Madrid, Barcelona, Paris or London, with carriers including Iberia, Air Europa, Air France and their US partner airlines. Total travel time is typically around 13 to 16 hours depending on your departure city and layover.
  • From the airport: Ibiza Airport is about 4 miles (6 km) from Ibiza Town, with taxis, shuttles and rental cars available for the short ride to the main marinas.
  • Via a mainland stopover: if you'd rather break up the long haul, many travelers spend a few days in Barcelona or Madrid before continuing on to Ibiza by a short connecting flight or, from Barcelona, an overnight ferry.
