What can you see and do on a boat rental in Istanbul?

There’s a reason why Istanbul is one of the most sought-after cities for world travellers, and that’s because there’s so much to see and do! Here are some of our recommendations for things to do while on your yacht charter in Istanbul.

Sail to the Prince Islands

This nine-island archipelago offers a tranquil and picturesque escape from the hustle and bustle of Istanbul. Trek through the lush greenery of Buyukada and hike up to the top of the island for a panoramic view of the Sea of Marmara and Istanbul in the distance. Head to Heybeliada, known for its beautiful beaches and crystal-clear water. You can go swimming, snorkelling and diving in the waters, or try your hand at windsurfing or paddleboarding. You can also rent kayaks or explore the hidden coves and beaches.

Sunbathe on stunning beaches

This city has some hidden gems when it comes to coastal spots that are definitely worth exploring. One of the most popular beaches in Istanbul is Kilyos, located on the Black Sea coast. This long, wide beach offers plenty of space for visitors to stretch out and relax, and the calm waters are perfect for swimming. If you're looking for a more secluded beach experience, head to Sile, a small town on the coast. For a more lively atmosphere with live music and water sports galore, go to Suma Beach, located on the Asian side of the city.

Go diving

One of the most popular dive sites in Istanbul is Sivriada Island. This small island, located in the Sea of Marmara, is a popular spot for both novice and experienced divers. The crystalline waters surrounding the island offer excellent visibility, and divers can spot a variety of marine life, including octopus, barracudas and schools of colourful fish.

For shipwrecks, you can head to Yassida Island where you can discover a wrecked WWII-era submarine lying on the sea floor. For those looking for a more advanced diving experience, the Bosphorus Strait offers a challenging and rewarding dive. The strong currents and deep depths of the strait make it a thrilling dive site, where divers can spot a variety of sea creatures, including dolphins, sea turtles and even the occasional shark!

What is the best time to charter a yacht in Istanbul?

The best time to embark on a yacht charter in Istanbul would be during the summer months between June and July as the weather is warm and sunny, and the sea is calm. The temperatures during these months can reach up to 30°C on some days, making it perfect for swimming and other water activities.

If you prefer fewer crowds and don’t mind milder temperatures, visit Istanbul during the shoulder seasons in spring and autumn. The months of April, May and October offer comfortable temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C, and the best part is that you’re likely to get better deals on boats!

Should I rent a boat in Istanbul with or without a skipper?

For a relaxed and all-inclusive experience on board, it doesn’t get better than a skippered yacht charter in Istanbul. Even if you already have a valid sailing licence, there are many benefits to having a skipper present. They can dock, anchor and navigate the vessel for you or show you some tips to improve your own technique while you take the helm. Because they are usually locals of the area they can also offer you a unique perspective and take you to the best spots in the city as well as some areas that only the locals would know about!

If you want your own authentic sailing experience, want to go on your own specific route and have a valid sailing licence, Click&Boat also have boats available to rent without a skipper.

A bosphorus cruise in Istanbul is a must. You can also visit Princes' Islands or 3rd Bridge by private yacht and have a swimming tour at these locations.
