Description of Byberg's sailboat
Sailboat Bavaria Bavaria Ac 40 12m
We bought our sailboat in 2015 and named it "Opportunity" because that`s what it is! It`s a opportunity to live freely,to see our coast and discover places we would not have seen otherwise. "We" were Anita and Haakon and our two children, who have now become teenagers and the oldest has left the house. We live in a small village named Valnesfjord, about 40 km from the boat. "Opportunity" is 12 meters and 4 meters wide. It has 3 cabins with double beds, 2 baths and a cosy interior made in mahogany. The cabins has comfortable beds and there is heating in all three cabins, the bathrooms and the living-room. It is well equipped with everything you need to make delicious meals with tableware, gas oven and hot/cold water. It has bed linen and towels for everyone. We have used "Opportunity" a lot! We have sailed up and down the coast of Norway and every week in season, we have participated in the local regatta in Bodø. We have used it for family outings, with our teenagers and trips with paying guests. The Norwegian coastline is exceptional! We have a magnificent landscape with steep mountains directly into the sea. Norway has a long coast with archipelago and fjord landscape and a rich flora and fauna, only Canada has longer coastline. From Bodø it`s easy to sail to some nearbu islands as Bliksvær, Fleinvær or Landegode. You can sail over Vestfjorden and visit Lofoten with it`s distinctive scenery with dramatic mountains and peaks, open sea and sheltered bays, beaches and untouched lands, or you can follow Vestfjorden and visit Steigen which is just as beautiful and with less people. Another option is sailing down to Helgeland which is one of the most beautiful parts of Norway. Along the stretch you will find around 12,000 islands, white beaches, mountains and peaks, sheltered coves, islets, fjords, the open sea, large untouched areas of land and steep mountain walls that stretch straight up from the sea. In addition, you will find a massive animal and bird life, including puffins, sea eagles and ospreys. Places as Støtt, Rødøy, Lovund, Træna and Myken, are all distinctive island communities with both soul and charm unlike anywhere else in our country. We will do our best to help you find the perfect sail so don`t hesitate to ask! "Opportunity" can be sailed alone, but you might have more fun if you have someone with you to give a hand when needed. The boat is well equipped with security features.

Overall rating
In general the boat fulfilled the description on your website. However there were several small en bigger technical issues, failures and things 'not working well', some already explained to us when we arrived, but some we found out during sailing. One of them being leakages/water in our beds. The reefing system of the mainsail was a very vulnerable systems that went wrong several times and gave us great trouble. Besides that the boat was messy (all storages spaces), not cleaned well (found one used condom in one of the bedbunks) and water under all floors.
Amazing sailing week on Haaken's boat. Haaken advised on best route day by day (we discovered the south of Bodo, with Bolga, Rodoya, Halsa, Hopen, Blickvaer, among others versus our initial plan to sail to Lofoten). We received in-depth training about Muligheten sailing boat (sails have been replaced in 2022 and were perfect, dinghy was very well motorized and started easily, etc). We discovered with Muligheten (Opportunity in norvegian) great spots, either to bath or start a small trek (I would mention Bolga, Halsa, Klokkarvik, etc…). We would definitely recommend Bodo as a perfect start for sailing in beautiful places, with perfect balance between swim and trail in immaculate spots.
Excellent boat and owner!
