What can you see and do on a yacht charter in Dubrovnik?

Dubrovnik is a veritable treasure trove of cultural and historical sites, begging to be discovered. There’s so much to see and do in this stunning city that it can be hard to know where to start but luckily, we’ve compiled a list of some of our favourite activities and attractions to add to your sailing itinerary!

  • Visit the Dubrovnik Cathedral and see the imposing dome-like structure of its roof which dominates the skyline. Inside you’ll find over 100 relics, and you can learn about its captivating origin story which includes a turbulent storm and a brave survivor.
  • Walk down Stradun, the main street that connects the two entrances to the Old Town. While there you can sample the array of cafes and bars as well as go shopping for local goods.
  • Ride the Dubrovnik cable car to see panoramic views of the city that will take your breath away.
  • Sail to the mysterious islands of Lokrum and Daksa where there have been reported ghost sightings and other sorts of paranormal activity. Even if you don’t see a ghost, you’re likely to spot one of the hundreds of peacocks that inhabit Lokrum Island!
  • Go beach hopping and sunbathe on some of Dubrovnik’s most iconic beaches such as Banje beach, Sveti Jakov and Coral Beach Club. Swim in the turquoise water and practice a number of water sports such as snorkelling, paddle boarding and windsurfing! If you want to go even deeper, scuba dive to the depths of the sea. While there, you will see colourful flora and fauna and if you’re lucky, you’ll spot two shipwrecks, Taranto and Tomislav, both of which make for great exploring!

What is the best time to hire a boat in Dubrovnik?

If you’re considering a yacht charter in Dubrovnik the best time to visit would be during the high season, from May to October. During this time period, the temperature is pleasant and warm and there is little to no rainfall, making for smooth sailing! If you fancy a boat trip in hot weather, visit Dubrovnik in August when the temperature is at an average high of 28°C. However, be aware that the summer months are Dubrovnik’s busiest tourist season so if you’re not keen on navigating crowds, it might be best to hire a boat in Dubrovnik in May or September when the weather is still warm, but the crowds are less dense. The best part: the prices of boats are also cheaper!

Do I need a skipper on board my Dubrovnik yacht charter?

If you have a licence and prefer to sail alone, we’ve got a variety of bareboat rentals to help you find exactly what you’re looking for. However, for novice sailors and experienced ones alike, we always recommend a boat hire with a skipper or crew for a more relaxed and worry-free sailing trip. Sail in safe hands with a skipper who will take care of everything like docking and navigating the vessel, so you don’t have to do anything but have a good time. Skippers can provide you with a more personalised sailing itinerary; they will take you to all of your must-see spots as well as some hidden gems that only the locals know about. Since most skippers are locals, they can also give you recommendations to make the most out of your time in Dubrovnik.

What type of boat is best for a yacht charter in Dubrovnik?

The type of boat you choose for your yacht charter in Dubrovnik really depends on what sort of holiday you have in mind. For a shorter holiday consider a daily hire like a RIB or a motorboat that goes fast enough to help you see everything on your jam-packed itinerary. For a longer charter choose a vessel with all of the amenities you’ll need for a comfortable stay on board. These vessels usually include catamarans or yachts, which have cabins where you can rest while sailing. Avid sailors might prefer a sailboat as they provide an authentic sailing experience however, they are not recommended for people who are pregnant or prone to seasickness!

Dubrovnik is simply a marvel. Its historic, natural beauty and the stunning Old City are only surpassed by the friendliness of its residents. We were skeptical of using ClickandBoat as we had never heard of this site and we are not from Croatia - but it was a highlight for us! Thank you so much to our wonderful skipper Dado!

A beautiful historic coastline with clear blue seas. A boaters' paradise with infinite number places to drop anchor and enjoy both coast and sea. We found Click&Boat a useful tool to avoid the tourist trap agents who are keen to take a commission. Straight forward and easy. We are now planning our next trip.

Dubrovnik coastal line and islands are great to explore by boat, there are hidden bays and small beaches with easy access. The sea is perfectly clear and offers many opportunities for diving, snorkling, an excellent restaurant on nearby islands with perfect traditional food and wines. Strongly reccomended - Elafiti island group - Kolocep, Lopud, Sipan, Jakljan and a boat ride below the Dubrovnik City Walls.

We picked up the boat in Dubrovnik and headed north to Miljet islands. Nice national park, with a few places to view and dive around. One night there and heading next to Korcula, that is a very nice city, with a bunch of places to visit and a long history in the city (from Marco Polo's house!). After that, a nice sail back to Dubrovnik, stopping to dive in the caves around the city.
