Lisbon, the city of thousand colours

Hire a boat in Lisbon, the capital and largest city of Portugal, and you will have a wonderful adventure in a truly cosmopolitan place that has inspired many painters and authors.

Located between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mar da Palha (Sea of Straw), the bay behind the Tagus Estuary), Lisbon's city centre has been built on seven hills (the hills of São Jorge, Estrela, Santa Carina, São Pedro de Alcantra, Graça, Senhora do Monte and Penha de França). This is why the city has cable cars, including the famous Santa Justa lift that connects the Baixa Pombalina to Bairro Alto at the historic centre of the city.

Although partly destroyed during the 1755 earthquake and a fire in 1988, Lisbon still has a large number of monuments to see. For example, while strolling through the city you can find yourself in the picturesque neighborhood of Alfama. You can visit there the São Jorge Castle or the Santa Maria Maior Cathedral. The Baixa Pombalina is the historic centre of the city and the oldest district, where you can visit Praça do Comércio, Lisbon's most famous square.

On the west side of the city you will find the Belém district, famous for its many monuments, including the Belém Tower, a point of reference for Portuguese explorers from the 15th to the 17th century.

Sailing with a boat from the Queen of the Tagus

If you hire a boat in Lisbon, for example a sailboat a catamaran, you can explore the rest of Portugal too. You can set sail from the port of Santo Amaro port or Alcantara near the April 25 bridge, which looks like the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. You will have no trouble sailing to Mar de Palha, passing under Vasco da Gama Bridge to reach the Tagus Estuary.

If you rent a  sailboat or a catamaran in Lisbon you could reach the Atlantic Ocean for a longer trip. To the south, you can visit Setúbal or Albufeira and Faro, passing py Cape St. Vincent. On the North, you will have no trouble to reach Porto or the Spanish coast of Vigo and Santiago de Compostela

Awesome sailing location! The frequent north wind enables you to sail nicely on a beam reach from Lisbon to Cascais and back. Lot's of pretty anchorages to visit, clean blue Atlantic water. In and around Lisbon there are many options to visit ports like Seixal, Cascais or even farther to Sesimbra and Setubal where a lot of dolphins can be spotted.

Juan Maria

Lisbon is a beautiful city near to the sea and offering cultural but also relaxing options. It is also great to catch a ferry to enjoy a meal in Almada or the Calcihnas area. And the Atlantic Ocean is very close! For sailing it is very convenient because the waters are protected but if you want real waves the ocean is very near.

Pedro

The perfect city for the perfect sailing experience! A wide range of spots to visit close to the water.
