corniche d'or

The Corniche d'Or, or Corniche de l'Estérel, was inaugurated in 1903 at the instigation of the Touring Club de France. This magnificent road, bordered by the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean and the red rocks of the Estérel massif, connects Saint-Raphaël to Cannes.

Calanques of the Esterel

Cap Dramont is part of the Estérel state forest. At its summit, the Semaphore was built in 1860 on the ruins of a watchtower dating from 1562. It is still used for sea surveillance. The large beach at Dramont was one of the main landing sites in Provence. 20,000 GIs of the 36th Texas Division of the US Army landed there on August 15, 1944. At the foot of the cape lies the very picturesque little fishing port of Poussaï.

Ile d'or

In the 19th century, Île d'Or was still just a rocky islet, like so many others along the Var coast. It wasn't until 1897 that the fabulous destiny of this small island was finally revealed. That year, an architect from Dramont, named Sergent, became its owner for a mere 280 francs (a Peugeot petrol car was worth 20 times that amount!). It changed hands a few years later, at the beginning of the 20th century, becoming the property of a certain Dr. Auguste Lutaud, who supposedly acquired it during a card game! He then proclaimed himself "Auguste I," sovereign of the island, and had a square tower built at great expense using red Estérel stone, in a Saracen style, uncommon in the region (where round-based "Genoese" towers were preferred). Golden Island was the setting for lavish receptions. Today, it remains privately owned.

Pampelonne

Pampelonne Beach is not only a place to relax, but also a symbol of French chic and glamour, having been brought to the forefront by cult films like "And God Created Woman." Cap Taillat

Cap Taillat is one of the natural gems of the Saint-Tropez peninsula. Nestled between Cap Lardier and Cap Camarat, it is distinguished by its remarkable sandy isthmus. A true green lung, it offers visitors over 2.5 km of coastal paths, landscaped and bordered by magnificent, lush vegetation. Trails also lead inland, where visitors can discover a private vineyard and a megalithic burial site (Dolmen de Briande). On the coast, the Customs House reveals its eight cells, fully restored in 2011 thanks in particular to the support of the PACA Region and the Banque Populaire Foundation. An information center for the public, it also hosts temporary exhibitions.

Lérins Islands

In an idyllic setting of unspoiled nature, these two islands facing the Bay of Cannes and the Esterel Massif offer visitors a unique collection of flora and fauna, as well as a singular history blending the mysteries of the Man in the Iron Mask with the tranquility of the Cistercian monks.
