Dia is an uninhabited island north of Heraklion surrounded by small rocky inlets and it is only accessible on boat. The island is of great archeological interest as it was populated during Minoan times and near the bay of Agios Georgios, a harbour settlement was established. The undersea discoveries of Jacques Yves Cousteau in 1974-5, provided evidence suggesting that there stood one of the biggest and most important ports in the whole island of Crete. The harbour appears to have sunk due to the destruction caused in the 1450 bc by the eruption of the volcano of Santorini and visitors are able to see remains of it if they dive with mask. Captain George and Kostantinos welcomed us onboard. George Explained everything about safety and expectations during sailing so we had an idea from the start. Communication was pleasant and we felt free to have fun and relax. The trip to Dia was smooth, safe and we felt cared for by George and Kostantinos who did their best to ensure we had everything we needed. Dia island waters were clean aquamarine colour and swimming there was a delight. Food onboard was equally good. Overall, we had a very good Experience and George taught me how to sail on Sup which was great. Thank you for the memorable day and will see you again next year with a new destination.
