The rules for sailing on Lake Como

While each municipality may issue specific regulations for sailing along its stretch of the lake, there are still general rules to keep in mind. These are the basic rules you should know if you rent a boat on Lake Como:

  • the minimum distance from the shore must be more than 150 meters,
  • the exit and return are only allowed perpendicular to the shore,
  • the maximum sailing speed is 27 knots (about 50 km/h).

In addition, to sail on Lake Como, all boats must be equipped with the necessary on-board equipment for sailing up to 1 mile, i.e. life jackets for each passenger, a lifebuoy with 30 meters of floating line and a fire extinguisher.
