What sailing opportunities does Kavala offer?

For starters, the stunning coast of Kavala is home to gorgeous scenery. North Greece offers its visitors a range of sightseeing and activities. Whether you prefer to explore the countryside, villages filled with history, or its peaceful beaches, Kavala has it all. Above all, the city is relatively quiet in relation to tourism, especially when compared to other Greek destinations such as Athens, Mykonos, and Santorini.

If you’re looking for beaches with soft white sand and atmospheric beach bars, head over to Ammolofoi Beach in Nea Peamos. You can have a relaxing day on the sunbeds or head into the clear waters for snorkeling where you can admire the marine life. Additionally, you can take your boat rental away from the mainland shores and head to the island of Thasos, a hidden gem within the Aegean Sea. This island hosts a range of activities in and outside of the water. You can spend your day hiking to the peak of Ypsarion or doing water sports such as canoeing, scuba diving, and even a relaxing pedal boat.

Not far from Kavala to the west is located the well-known region of Chalkidiki, which due to its three jutting peninsulas is a perfect sailing destination for explorers of the sea. In the middle peninsula lies the charming fishing village of Vourvourou. You can also consider boat rental in Vourvourou as a way to begin your sailing experience to the blue northeast waters of the Aegean Sea.

Should you hire a skipper?

If you are looking to charter a yacht in Kavala, the available boats likely have options including a skipper and a crew. One of the advantages of hiring a professional skipper is the fact that they will be familiar with the surrounding waters, so they will know exactly where to go and how to navigate the sea. This means that they can take you to unique and special locations that are less popular and that they can modify your journey to your liking. Additionally, a skipper will handle all the sailing, docking, and anchoring of the boat. Thus, you won’t need specific knowledge regarding sailing or a qualified license to enjoy your holiday and focus on relaxing. Last but not least, the addition of a skipper and crew members can give you the ultimate luxury boating experience by leaving no responsibilities for you apart from enjoying your stay on board.

In Kavala you must visit the old town with its narrow nice streets, and the old castle on the top from which you will find a best view on the bay and the town. Also I liked very much the Thassos island. You should take min 3-4 days for meeting this beautiful island. Highly reccomend to spent one day and to rent the scooter or quadrocicle and make the round the island. You will not regret.

We went on a fishing trip to Thassos. Did not catch much, but weather and sea were great. We stayed at Limenaria and Nea Iraklitsa. Specially , second one is really nice with close restaurants and taverns. Marina is a bit small, but at this time of the year, there are not so many boats.

Kavala is an ideal place for boat rentals. The port is new and safe to park the boat. Thasos island and Kavala bay are the must-see places of the area. You can go scuba diving, fishing, swimming and have a variety of sea sports at the area. I suggest you should come to Kavala.
