So much to do around Marseille. Iles du Frioul, Cassis, La Ciotat, Les Calanques -- all wonderful! The scenery is incredible! The wind can change quickly from on day to the next. If the Mistral comes tearing through you might need to wait till it subsides. You will not be disappointed.
Go see the Calanques - amazing! Our family of 4 rented boat with skipper through Pierre, and it was a fabulous day. Saw a lot of amazing sights, and just enjoyed a day of swimming and lounging around. The old port of Marseille was something to see, but also get out along the coast towards Cassis - really should not miss the Calanques (we even went cliffjumping near Cassis - a highlight of our trip).
We visited the charming harbour of Cassis, this stop is a must if you are in the area. We also tied up to mooring balls in a calanques port-miou. This is a very well protected bay right next to Cassis with mooring balls. Please note most calanques are non-anchoring zones so this is one of the few ones you can actually stop in. We also went to la Ciotat, which is an industrial harbour but offer some nice bars and restaurants.
