GAS LIGHT is fashioned after the famous San Francisco scow schooners. Tall ships like her sailed in the late 1800s, carrying goods and freight from town to town throughout the Bay and its tributaries. Bay Lights Charters offers a one-of-a-kind experience on San Francisco Bay. Gas Light, our historic 72' schooner, provides a warm, comfortable, and stable ride for corporate events or private parties of up to 49 people. The original GAS LIGHT was commissioned in 1874. More than a century later, in 1990 craftsman and accomplished sailors Billy Martinelli and Carl Schumacher with the help of Harold Sommers and Karl Kortum (co-founder of the SF Maritime Museum), designed the new steel-hulled Scow Schooner GAS LIGHT and began building her in Sausalito. GAS LIGHT is truly a window on the proud heritage of the original working scows. After ten years of labor, meticulous attention to detail, and loving care, she was launched and certified by the U.S. Coast Guard to carry up to 49 passengers. Although she appears to be a replica of the 1874 schooner, GAS LIGHT tall ship boasts many of the guest comforts and conveniences of modern-day sailing yachts, not the least of which is a terrific sound system! Full of historic charm yet designed with modern amenities. Step aboard, mingle, and take in the unforgettable views. The best part? Your cruise is fully customizable in all respects. We are the choice for any occasion and all adventures! All events are fully customizable by our clients, including -pick-up locations, Downtown San Francisco, Sausalito, or Marina Bay in Richmond. You are welcome to bring your own snacks or we have multiple catering options for you to choose from.-We to have a California liquor license so we must supply the adult beverages. Cash or hosted bar options are available. GAS LIGHT has a one of a kind open concept that is not only spacious but allows for guests to lounge both inside and out. No other sailing vessel has as much upper deck or below deck space for passenger comfort. What our yacht offers is an unforgettable experience you and your guests will always remember.
