I booked this day for me and my family. In short this was a fantastic day and has really made our holiday in Mauritius. Communication from the booking team was good and responded quickly to all my questions including organising a bespoke menu which I have to say was delicious with fresh lobster being brought straight to the boat and being cooked onboard by Charles our Captain and his crew. The boat was well equipped with all the necessary safety equipment and Charles was very experienced in the local attractions, taking us to see pilot Whales up close, even smelling fish when they blew through their blow holes! All in all I would highly recommend this experience to anyone. Thanks again Darren (UK)

How much is it to hire a boat in Mauritius?

The price of a private yacht charter in Mauritius depends on the type of boat you choose, the season you visit the island and the duration of your hire. Any other services or equipment that you may require can also affect the price of your Mauritius yacht charter. Below, you can find the average weekly prices:

Motorboats

£7,560/week in low season

£9,100/week in high season

Catamarans

£6,930/week in low season

£7,350/week in high season

When is the best time to visit Mauritius?

As Mauritius is located close to the equator, the island has two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season starts in May and ends in October, where temperatures range between 19 and 27 degrees. The wet season runs from November to April, where the minimum temperature is around 21 degrees and the maximum is around 32. The best time to go to Mauritius is between September and November when you can have a perfect temperature and a low probability of rain.

Can I hire a boat with or without a skipper in Mauritius?

If you do not have a boat licence or simply want to enjoy your holiday without any of the hassles of sailing, make sure to include a skipper in your booking. The skipper is an expert in the local area and will be able to guide you to the best spots around the island. They will also take care of all the sailing logistics and technicalities. You can, of course, book a bareboat rental in Mauritius too but it will not be the same experience!

What is there to see in Mauritius?

Although the island is not too big, there are numerous places and activities that you should know about before setting off on your sailing adventure.

  • The liveliest town is Port Louis, where you can sample local delicacies and shop in the local shops. Here, you can visit Aapravasi Ghat, a UNESCO World Heritage site and former immigrant sorting centre used during the years of British rule on the island.
  • A favourite stop for tourists is Grand Baie (Grand Bay in English), a village that has undergone incredible development in recent years located in the north of the island. From here, numerous tours to the smaller islands near Mauritius depart and various water sports are practised.
  • Mauritius can also offer a “wilder” side. The southeastern coast has more rural scenery, perfect for surfers and divers. On this side of the island, you can also visit the Black River Gorges National Park, where you will find exotic animals such as lions, giraffes and more.
  • For those who want to feel a complete sense of freedom, we highly recommend visiting Rodrigues Beach. This beach is the perfect location for those who want to feel far away from the civilised world even for an afternoon. Here you can relax on the white sand, swim in the crystal-clear waters of the Indian Ocean and snorkel in the coral reef.
  • Once you have finished the island tour, you can move on to the surrounding small islands with your boat. You must definitely visit Deer Island, a natural site that will allow you to see one of the most beautiful and photographed beaches in the world. Moving northwards you will come across Flat Island and Round Island, both uninhabited islands where you can enjoy the most pristine sea.
