The best captain in the world !
We rented the boat for 7 days for a trip on Minorca. We had a great time there with good sailing conditions. We could have planned better our bookings at marinas and at restaurants. So we ended up staying most nights with the anchor in different Calas which was absolutely fine. The boat is sailing fine and we had nice navigation experiences. The GPS on board is very small but does the job. Unfortunately we did not have detailed charts of Minorca on board but we used a n illustrated book with many pictures that the owner provided us. We had planned to go around the island but ended up staying on the north side. The boat has 2 relatively small aft cabins with little air flow. Some of us ended up sleeping in the cockpit. It was very nice as the weather was fine. The boat is from 2004. It has been used as a private family boat, fully equipped perhaps sometimes too much. Some compartments of the boat could be cleaned out of unnecessary items. For example, the kitchen closets with too many pans, the chart table, the cockpit stowage places, etc. There was a lot of spare parts and tools on the boat. Unfortunately, the boat suffers from under-maintenance. There are numerous things that should be fixed or just improved. This is a constant effort as a boat owner especially if you plan to rent it out. We experienced some unfortunate issues: First, we had some issues with the water tank indicator which did not work anymore but we managed to check the water level by opening the tank. Then we had problems with the service battery that would not charge as expected and fridge that stopped working. And with the starter battery that decided not start the engine twice for some reason. We also had a very bad experience during refueling when we realised that the owner had forgotten to screw back the hatch of the fuel tank. We ended up with tens of liters in the bilge and a terrible diesel smell in the cabins. We were however promised a compensation for this incident but this should simply never happen on a rental boat. We had a very nice relation with the owner who was always there to help and give advices. Bottom line: it was a good and bad experience. The bad ones could have been avoided with better care and maintenance of the boat.
