Description of Philippe's sailboat
Sailboat Archambault Surprise Dl 7.65m
I rent my Surprise version weighted dinghy, on the Bassin d'Arcachon. It is the ideal boat for sailing and strolling around the basin, the sailboat is fast, winds up very well, and the lifting drift allows it to pass in many places where the keelboats can not go. With him you can go sailing to the bench of Arguin, go around the Ile aux oiseaux, where to stroll well in the bottom of the basin. The sailboat is in excellent condition and very well accastillé, with a spinnaker (extra of 90 €), jib on furling, mainsail with 1 reef, etc ... Possibility to sleep on the boat, on request we will provide you with stove on cardan. The boat is also equipped with WC.

I'm here to confirm our interview this morning. I left last night after three pleasant days of sailing at a reasonable price. The sailboat itself, its sails, structure, and engine age, gave me satisfaction. However, I want to tell you that I don't think you can decently rent it again this year without having carried out a minimum of maintenance and cleaning. I think it's difficult to rent a sailboat without someone competent to handle it and return it. Note that I was unable to reassemble the engine or furl the mainsail properly, which I could have done with this person's help... to be done quickly to avoid any snags. It was the previous user who showed me how the engine worked and how to "close" the boat... Let me first tell you that I almost had a serious accident shortly before my departure: having leaned on the port lifeline, it gave way, my knee hit the deck, and I found myself for a good minute on the pontoon, where I was leaning on the lifeline: very sharp, immediate pain, but without consequences: I was able to quickly resume my lay-up activities: the shackle attaching to the pulpit (with sharp edges) had lost its pin, which had been replaced by a piece of string quickly slashed by the shackle; I found a pin on board and made the necessary repairs, securing the tension with a small, sturdy piece of rope I had brought with me; I also re-tensioned the starboard side with a piece of rope I found on board; fortunately, this incident didn't occur while I was on the recall, otherwise I would have been overboard! Here are a few comments on the boat's condition: Anchor roller needs to be reattached with a little bit of "sauerkraut" to ensure the screws hold securely. Fenders: 2 missing: one to support the boom and one to have two on each side. Engine bracket: This beautiful 8 hp engine deserves a stronger, newer, and properly functioning bracket: one to raise it, as well as two to reverse other than at idle (dangerous when maneuvering!) Rudder: Cracked, traces of repair putty. Wind vane: Jammed by fibers at the top of the mast...you have to climb the mast! If you feel like it, change the furling halyard on the genoa sheets, and definitely change the lines on some fenders, which fluff up and are difficult to undo. Fresh water not operational (I had my tanks). No gas (I had my equipment). Category 6 safety equipment: significant deficiencies: I could have been arrested by the police at the Banc d'Arguin....in fact, it's a "beach craft." Check the standing rigging, depending on its age (I broke mine on the Garonne 20 years ago and found myself with my mast and sails in disarray in the middle of the river.....fresh wind! By the way: no booklet, a flashing light without batteries, distress flares? No hand probe (very useful at the bottom of the basin), no foghorn, no night lights. Of course, night navigation is prohibited on the Dock...but we may have to anchor or return late. And I'll pass by, check out the Breton Sailor's Almanac for the list. No operational fresh water Broken companionway hatch, impossible to close the boat! Transparent side panels: one cracked and repaired at TD A lazy jack would be welcome for using the sailboat single-handed. With a few ropes, you can make a makeshift one that is very effective; it makes furling the mainsail on the Baume so much easier! See the easy assembly diagrams online (hisseo) The dock map dates from 1989...and I discovered before leaving the boat that there was a small sheet where the new dock buoyage was marked, more in line with the international buoyage! A new 2017 map from the same brand as the one from 1989 would be welcome. The small map under Plexiglas is useless (old and inaccurate). Finally, before Before re-renting the boat, I think it would be wise to empty it completely, vacuum it, scrub with a brush, sponge, water, and "Mr. Clean," put the useful things back inside, throw away the rest, dry all the bilges, degrease, remove any rust and throw them away, grease the tools and put them back in a clean, waterproof bag, change the bucket, put a good length in it to be able to take on sea water, throw in a bailer, and clean the good one. The cushion covers should be washed, desalinated (humidity)... difficult to put them back on afterward, but... - at least brush and vacuum, but that's not really enough. Leave future users a deck scrubber or washing brush (to clean the carpet later) and add a small amount of Mr. Clean to encourage renters to use it (not too much to avoid waste) + a household sponge + a A sponge for heavy-duty work may be used to dry the bilge. I think Oui Chérie deserves the treatment I recommend. Better yet, seek professional advice for the operational aspects. This care will be a sign of affection for this old companion, and a demonstration of respect for anyone who rents it. Hoping not to have bothered you, but having unburdened myself of things that were on my mind. Sincerely, Christian LABARRERE Mobile: 06 07 61 31 16 [email protected]
Thank you Philippe for this very pleasant sailboat to steer.
