The takeover of the ship went well. Although I find that a self check-in takes more time overall than if you do the check-in together with the base manager. In our case, some items were missing and some were not found because the names of the items were not understandable on the check-in form due to the translation from French to English. As a result, there was a lot of back and forth, and the check-in took more than 2.5 hours. When you go through the equipment list with the base manager, you are done in 30 minutes. Furthermore, the ship did not have a Bassarella, which is very problematic when leaving the ship in a harbor, especially in gusty winds, because you have to get very close to the pier with the stern, and the stern can get damaged as a result. This was especially relevant for us because we had children on board. During the check-in, I noticed that the engine oil level was far below the minimum mark. The engine oil was refilled immediately. However, I recommend always checking the oil level upon takeover. It was not acceptable that one of the traveler’s pulleys was broken. Although I noticed it before setting sail, it was not repaired. However, the traveler could still be operated. On the mainsail, a batten was unhooked from the batten car. Additionally, one of the reef lines was too short, so it was not possible to fully set the mainsail without unthreading the reef line. Furthermore, the reef line of the genoa consisted of two different lines, which caused the line to constantly get tangled in the pulley and the halyard clutch when setting the foresheet. I could not deposit the security electronically; I had to provide my credit card details in plain text to the charter company, which I personally find very problematic Overall, however, there were no major deficiencies, so we were able to enjoy our sailing trip.

I chartered the Dufour 470 for three weeks. I wanted to sail from Marseille to the Balearic Islands and Barcelona and had agreed this with the charter company. When I took delivery, I was sent a file for the boat check on my cell phone. Unfortunately, this file was not in my language. This caused problems for me. We had to look for parts on the ship that had been stored somewhere (for example the engine cone and the anchor ball). It took us over three hours. With the help of the charter company, it would not have taken more than an hour. The clamps for the halyards for twelve halyards and sheets were not labeled. They were labeled at our request. The oil level in the engine was too low according to the dipstick. A liter of oil was added. On the first evening on board, the base of a bench seat broke. The backrest of this bench seat is the only way to hold on in the salon when the sea is rough. We asked for it to be repaired or, alternatively, for a tensioning strap and wood glue. We received the answer that no staff would be available on Saturday. There was only one cleat for reef 1 in the cockpit. When I asked, I was told that the mainsail only had one reef. When we hoisted the sail at sea for the first time, we noticed two rows of reefs. However, the sheet for reef 2 was around 8 meters too short and was tied to the mast. Unfortunately, there was no cleat for it on the mast. At the same time, we noticed that the traveler was very stiff. During the inspection, we found that two pulleys were damaged or no longer there. When we informed the charter company about the defects, we received the answer that the charter company had a report in which I confirmed that the equipment was complete and safe. We were only a two-hour drive from the departure port and when we asked again, we only received the answer that no staff was available to help us. We bought a corresponding halyard and had it professionally pulled in. In the first week, we lost two full days because of these problems. We received no replacement or compensation for this. There is no navigation table on board. There were no nautical charts (only a chart for overseas sailing) and no port guides. The panel for all electrical devices and lights and the radio are difficult (!!!) to reach behind the table above the seating area. The fixings for shelves in the refrigerator were broken. The covers for the pot cupboard were missing. The cover for the sink was broken. This meant that there was no work surface in the pantry. The space in the foreship cabin was very good. The beds in the aft cabins were very wide and comfortable. The boat was not returned until three hours after the agreed time. The employee was very friendly and confirmed that it had been returned properly. We were reimbursed for our outlay for the reef 2 sheet ten days after the end of the charter.
