The experience was nice, but I suggest they send instructions to find the meeting point, and the instructions to guide the boat should be clearer.
We – four people without a boat license – rented a boat online for one day in advance. Booking and payment went smoothly. According to the listing, neither a skipper nor a license were required, as long as we were only cruising around the island of Favignana. The booking confirmation ultimately didn't specify any fuel costs or a pick-up point. When we arrived on the island, we spent about an hour looking for the meeting point and had to ask around several times. There were no employees anywhere. After we finally found the owner's cabin, we ended up having to wait another hour before we could finally begin our boat trip. At reception, we were asked if we had a boat license, even though we had already stated this. We were then told that they didn't actually want to rent us the boat. They recommended we book a skipper for €70, as otherwise we wouldn't be insured. We did this because the risk was too high and the explanations of the do's and don'ts were too vague. When booking, we should have stated in advance that mooring was not possible. The anchor must be dropped approximately 150 to 200 meters from the "coast," and one person must remain on board at all times. After the trip, we paid the skipper. They said all costs were covered and we could leave. Later, the owner called and wanted another €60!!! for fuel. In our opinion, more detailed information should have been provided in advance. Furthermore, €60 for fuel for this small boat is far too high. We also had to pay the skipper for the time from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., even though he was only needed from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. All in all, it was a nice trip, but it still seems to be a tourist trap.
Good, but it could have been better. I had to wait an hour for Vincenzo to leave, and then he never answered his cell phone that day. But his wife was in the reception cabin. Thank goodness. There was a wind out at sea, so the anchor couldn't hold the boat steady if you wanted to stop in the coves. All in all, everything was fine. Thanks.
