Boat rental in Brest · Beneteau — First 21,7 (2008)

Great tour over the weekend with anchorage at the cove of Bertheaume then a tour around the Tas de Poids. 6 knots without difficulty. Habitable (spartan) for 4. Xavier and Marie-Annick are very accommodating, we were able to sleep on the boat the day before despite a late arrival!

Thank you for this beautiful day sailing in the main roadstead of Brest to Lanvéoc via Roscanvel. Friendly and flexible owners (day postponed to the next day for weather reasons at the suggestion of the husband and wife owners after briefing on the pontoons). Indeed, the persistent drizzle and poor visibility linked to this very light drizzle on the day would have deprived us of the beautiful view, which would have been a shame for my crew members discovering Brest, Logonna, le Fret and Lanvéoc. Pleasant day under the sun and a nice breeze. The sailboat and the auxiliary engine for port maneuvers are very reliable. The "P'tit Gab'" works very well, goes upwind well, and is very easy to understand (we estimate having covered a little more than 20 nautical miles, easily, in about 6h30). The furling genoa is great. We are delighted. Great experience for my friends on board.

Bad experience this summer. Beyond a material problem with the engine that made us return the boat after 2 days, the absence of safety lines (single end that doesn't hold much), the absence of a depth sounder log, and a VHF present on request only, the black point was Xavier's communication. During our discussions on the water about the engine not starting (multiple failures when starting) he yelled at us several times and at no time asked us if we were safe. Because we didn't know how to change a spark plug in the open sea we were asked to stay "riding on land". This is not acceptable behavior. Xavier reimbursed us for the days lost.

I had a disagreement with Xavier, due to a misunderstanding on my part that caused a 4-hour delay in returning the boat. I apologize for that. On arrival, I was yelled at, called a liar and threatened legally and financially for 1 hour, during the arrival maneuvers and the storage of the boat. Being yelled at in the middle of a maneuver is not safe behavior. In addition, as soon as I took over, and despite my 1 year of experience as a sailing instructor on board with complete beginners, Xavier told me that he did not trust me for the sole reason that I hesitated to go between Camaret and Le Fret for the night. The boat was returned in perfect condition and it runs well (in light winds). Furthermore, I was surprised to find neither VHF, nor a depth sounder, nor the possibility of taking reefs in the mainsail, nor an annex, nor enough length of chain to anchor for the night (formally forbidden by Xavier when taking over). Thus the navigation was restricted due to what I consider to be a lack of equipment on the boat (even if division 240 is respected, an argument that Xavier uses for each shortcoming mentioned above) Good sailing experience, bad human experience.

Very nice day of sailing everything was perfect, the boat was ideal for this type of outing we anchored behind the round island for lunch and we left towards the Quelerin peninsula before returning. Very good welcome and good recommendations from Xavier we are very satisfied with this rental which we highly recommend we will certainly rent this boat again.

Very good boat, perfectly maintained. Under Spinnaker, it grows! Nice navigation at the open of the Brest Gully between Berthaume and Camaret. Wind 15 knots established. Speed peaks at 7 knots under spinnaker and holds its 5 knots well upwind. I did not expect such performances with this small boat. The boat is very clean. The owner gave me the info I needed and provided self-inflating vests. New engine and easy to use even if we only used it for harbor maneuvers. I'll be back.

We would have liked to get along a little better with Xavier, and share a little beyond the full topo on people who do not know how to sail, the primacy of the alamanach on the marine block, the ah-good-you-don't-know -not-the-division-240 but I am convinced that Xavier is a passionate sailor. I will come back, if the opportunity arises!
