For a variety of reasons (Covid, etc) my wife and I had not had a big vacation in a long time. So I wanted this trip to be great. It also happened to be our 25th wedding anniversary. We narrowed down to sailing in Tahiti, but there are so many options, it soon became overwhelming. I know boats and sailing, and had bareboat chartered before, but it can be stressful, and we wanted an easy trip. We were also bringing our best friends with us, a couple who do not know sailing or Tahiti, so I really wanted this trip to crush. Long story short, Steve and his crew gave us a fabulous week. There are a million catamarans out there. There are a million Lagoon __ cats out there. The crews are the main difference. Well, what a difference Steve, Benji and Maeva made! From minute one, I knew we were among warm, caring people who really wanted to deliver a fabulous week for us. If I say service, it does a disservice to what they brought to the table. Constant attention to us, without crossing the "too much" line. Benji took us on all kinds of excursions, amazing locations and snorkeling spots, etc. I spent 4 years sailing on a sailboat in the most remote places in the Pacific. The snorkeling they showed us was really impressive. And the food was off the hook. Lots of amazing fresh fish, marinated, every style imaginable. Breakfast spreads were incredible. Eggs, crepes, fruit, coconut toast, more fruit, on and on. I joked with Maeva that we would have to get her a Michelin Star somehow. It’s the tropics, so we had periods of rain. Not all day, but sometimes for a couple of hours. Steve immediately walked over with some card games (and then sat down and patiently taught us how to play). It was a small thing, but just another example of everyone trying to make our week the best it could be. He’s a really, really sweet guy, a tad self conscious about his english not being perfect, but we had a blast working on our respective language skills. He’s also an amazing fisherman! I am being so positive that some of you may think this is a fake review. Here’s one thing to note. If you are looking for a 2025 Lagoon, this isn’t it. It’s a nice boat, in good shape, but you aren’t going to have AC and magnetic charging stations for your iphone 23s. But a Lagoon 50 is a Lagoon 50, IMO, and it was very comfortable, and we personally don’t think new car smell for a week is worth an extra 10 or 15k. You may operate differently. To me, the people were everything. I lived on a sailboat as a kid, with my parents. We had crew from time to time, helping us on long passages. I understand how important chemistry can be on a sailboat, over time. Short version is, you would be hard pressed to find a better team or trip!
