Avoid the Lokavoile agency in Quiberon and Mr. Pierre Fournol twice over!! We rented the Beajou sailboat for four days from May 29th to June 1st for €2,220 (excluding insurance). We encountered the following problems on this sailboat: - Dinghy paddles were out of order and unusable (replaced before departure, at our request) - No adapter for inflating the dinghy, making this operation unpredictable and very time-consuming - The dinghy's outboard engine failed persistently from the first use (preventing us from going ashore on the first day) - The inboard engine wouldn't start for more than 3 hours (requiring us to sleep at anchor in Houat, leaving the engine idling all night to prepare for any eventuality and thus be able to return to Quiberon the next day without delay) All of this required us to leave the anchorage at 5 a.m. to be in Quiberon early Friday morning to check in with Lokavoile. These problems were finally corrected, and we were able to set sail again on Friday between 3 and 4 p.m. The boom/mast connection (the mullet) broke, and the boom separated from the mast on Sunday during the return trip, forcing us to return under engine power. Luckily, this series of problems didn't have any serious consequences, but it did significantly disrupt our planned schedule, as we lost more than a day on the round trip to Quiberon and various repairs. When I informed Mr. Pierre Fournol, Co-Manager (he had already been aware of this since Friday, having replaced the outboard motor and the inboard starter batteries, among other things), he acknowledged that the boat was in poor condition and agreed to reimburse us for one day of the four-day charter as compensation. We accepted this, as it was a balanced solution. Imagine our surprise when he finally reimbursed us €200 for one day, even though we had paid €2,220 excluding insurance for four days, which came to €555 per day! Mr. Fournol justified this amount with vague calculations that didn't reflect the facts and demonstrated utter bad faith. Please be aware that if you charter with Lokavoile, you risk: 1) sailing a boat that hasn't been tested, which may even present safety issues (a broken mast-boom connection, a broken inboard engine) 2) being offered compensation upon return, which will never be paid.
