Prepare to set sail from the vibrant port town of Bodrum, experiencing the renowned Bodrum summer and turquoise water sailing at its best! Our Boat Spark-1 is docked in Milta Marina, right at the heart of Bodrum. Our 3 CabinBavaria 40 Cruiser sailing yacht, made in 2011 and refitted in 2021 can accommodate officially (due to the seaworthiness document) up to 7 people in 3 cabins and on 1 sofa bed in the galley (or on deck mattresses). The teak deck, wide sun bathing surfaces and sun mattresses, together with an aft swimming platform contributes to incredible swimming experience. All bed linens, blankets and bath towels are included in the price. The well equipped galley includes 2 refrigerators, an ice maker, stove top gas cooker, an oven, coffee machine and all kitchen utensils for your cooking needs. Spark-1 is also fully equipped to ensure your safety while meeting the expectations of most enthusiastic sailors. With 80 mt of chain and ultra anchor the electrical windlass enables perfect holding and safe mooring. It has a dinghy with a 2.5 hp engine too. Our charter is child and pet friendly. A table game set, basic snorkeling and fishing equipment also awaits you. Please let us know if you need any equipments in advance. BODRUM SAILING AREA: Why do we think Bodrum is among the best areas in the World to set your sails. Here is why: 1-In this area you can find the most stable summer sailing winds in the Mediterranean. Bodrum is part of Aegea and Aegea means Meltemi. Meltemi is what makes Aegea. It is the wind that blows between May and October due to clashing weather systems over Balkans and Anatolia. It sometimes drops or oppositely gets really strong (especially in the western parts of Aegean sea) but almost never in the area of Bodrum. Bodrum and Gokova forms a good and wide channel for Meltemi to keep its strength between 3-5 Beaufort almost all day and every day. It generally drops with the sun set which enable calm nights. 2- It is safe too. For over 35 years of sailing in this area I have not witnessed any stoppage in water traffic during summer time. The wind rarely exceeds 5 Beaufort and reaches to gale levels. Even if it does, the area is surrounded by many good shelters within couple of nm's so you can get beautiful shelters within half an hour or so. Meltemi is also a wind that you may beg for in a Mediterranean summer as, being a Northern wind it brings bearable temperatures, ventilation and dry weather. AC in a boat in an Aegean summer night is absolutely not of a necessity. That has always been a special charm of the Aegean waters in the history. 3- According to there are 61 green (against dominant NE to W winds) mostly 4 or 5 star mooring spots within 30 nm distance which means about a half summer day of downwind sailing (Meltemi blows westerly in Gökova bay) away. The spots in Greek Islands within the same distance are not included in this number. If you include 30 4-5 star green spots in Hisarönü bay (of Turkey), which is 55 nm's away, than the wider Bodrum area happen to have almost 100 beautiful turquoise bays, and in addition to that about 10 Greek Islands to explore. In this area also the anchorages are less crowded compared to other favorable places . 4- The Gökova sailing means also sailing in a spacious area (44 nm's to 13 nm's). Hisarönü bay is similar in terms of width and depth. While providing safety with surrounding land, it also gives the feeling of open sea with its constant strong wind. The wind is mostly constant because there are no islands to block and destabilize the westerly blowing meltemi. 5- Almost 90 percent of the mooring spots are surrounded with pine forests, and almost all of them are filled with clear turquoise waters. You'll love swimming in every spot. There are also 3 ancient sites (Knidos Antique City, Sedir Island Historical sight and Bodrum fortress) that you can Moore right in front and visit. Additionally are numerous of walking terrains and seaside restaurants which you can enjoy. So our boat is located in a unique, heavenly area for a week of sailing vacation. No matter whether you rent our boat or not, we recommend you to sail in this area at least once in your life time. 5- Even though, being a sailor, you may not prefer the crazy night life and a lot of people, it is always nice to pass through Bodrum, which is the most favorite and beautiful vacation destination of Turkey. The boat was good, sailed well and all important systems worked. The boat is a bit worn down and could need a haul out and maintenance. The communication with owners was good, but because they were not physically available the handover to us was a bit slow and not so technical. Engine needs maintenance. We were very happy with the layout of the boat and all technical systems that made it easy to anchor and the long lines made it possible to use lines to the rocks.
Positive: This was our fifth rental, and Ahmet was an outstanding host. Throughout the week, he kept in touch with us, offering helpful tips and providing support whenever needed. He was easily one of the best hosts we have ever had. Being the owner of the boat himself made a huge positive difference to the overall experience. While the boat is not brand new, it is comfortable and well-suited for sailing in the area. Negative: Some maintenance improvements are needed, particularly regarding the main engine and other elements that tend to loosen over time. For example, the lower fixation screw of the jib came loose, and there was no spare available. We managed to secure it temporarily with a piece of rope—without that, the sail could have torn. Additionally, a cap from the dinghy came loose due to insufficient servicing and became trapped in the hatch. This caused a crack in the acrylic glass when the hatch was opened. Although the glass had been previously broken and showed signs of repair and glue, we were charged €700 for replacement, despite knowing that a new one costs €532 plus VAT. We did raise this point, but the charge was maintained. Summary: Bodrum and Gökova Bay are fantastic places to sail, offering consistent winds over long hours of the day. Knidos and Sedir Island are must-visit destinations. Compared to other popular sailing areas, this region feels more secluded, with fewer ports and villages to explore—perfect for those seeking a quieter, more natural sailing experience. Minor issues may take place in every rental even in the brand-new boats and we are happy to give our full support for when you need. However, regarding unfortunate hatch breaking situation, we want to clarify an issue which is very important for us both personally and as business ethics. First of all, please be sure that these types of accidents are not something we would like to make revenue from. Any potential dispute is far from contributing to our business at all. It is our policy to overlook minor damages and minimally reflect the cost of any damage to our clients and we will continue to do so. We always try to limit the damage cost reflected to the clients and consider alternative solutions. It was the case in your hatch situation too. Our Bavaria 40 Cruiser has original low profile hatches (better design with flatness) not the Bavaria's medium profiles which creates a barrier on the decks. The price of Lewmar low profile 54x57.5 cm hatch in SVB is 1008.36 euros excluding vat and shipping. Its SVB item number is 33720 in the online catalogue. The customs and international shipping costs have to be added too. So the price of the hatch in Turkey rises up to 1350 Euros. We did not want to reflect you this much cost this time we found an alternative local producer in another harbour in Turkey and went for it. Its VAT included cost was 648 Euros plus transportation. We partially reflected the replacement service cost and the total amounted to 700 Euros instead of 1350 Euros We thought this was a fair deal but apparently we could not convey the situation to you clearly. So, I am sending you all the documentation over telephone messaging. We did not know about the issue with the engine until you mentioned it when you got into the marina. We checked it thoroughly and could not find any problems. Sending the boat out with a poorly maintained engine is not a wise business plan. So, we do heavy maintenance at the beginning of every season and light maintenance before every rental. Nowadays the second rental taking place after you and no problems were reported so far. Re to the jib shackle, we could also offer you a better solution for it, if you have ever notified us during your trip. I assume you were ok with the condition of the boat back then. And looseness of the caps of the dinghy paddles is not due to bad maintenance, they had to be fastened while putting the dinghy back on the deck. Again we feel very sorry about what has happened as we you had to pay some more and we had to justify what was obvious. We wish you did not break and had to pay some amount and also wish you saw our compromise and efforts to ease your liability. All the best Sanem
"Spark I is a well-maintained boat—comfortable and easy to handle for sailing. It has all the equipment and accessories you need; nothing is missing. The renter and the marina staff are top class: helpful, responsive, easy to deal with and professional. The highlight is Milta Marina—by far the best in terms of infrastructure and service. The staff assist proactively with docking, making both mooring and departure completely stress-free. Showers and toilets are spotless. Bodrum is a fantastic place—I will definitely come back.
We can highly recommend Spark 1. Owners Ahmet and Sanem was extremely helpful with route planning and even identifying fish species for us. We had an incredible holiday on Spark 1 with perfect weather in Bodrum area. Operations wise Sonay was always ready to assist with everything technical and he can park a yacht 😁 We didn’t want to leave!
A fantastic week! Thanks to Sanem and Ahmet for this superb Cruiser 40. The boat is in very good condition, with just a few minor issues. It's very pleasant to sail, even in strong winds. Sanem is very responsive to messages, and communication is seamless. The guide provided for sailing in the Gulf of Gekova was very helpful and full of good advice. We also had a paddleboard, which was very useful for moorings. The sailing conditions were perfect, and the anchorages were magnificent. In short, a great week, I highly recommend it!
