Overall rating
We were a group of six and chartered „Les Copains D'abord“ a Dufour 390 GL for two weeks in Marseille, Corbières. Even though the boat was only about 4 years old it was not in good shape and poorly maintained. The service batteries were way too small (2x105Ah at 12V) for a boat of this size and the installed type of battery (flooded lead-acid) would be suited as a starter battery but not as a service battery. The batteries were in such a bad condition that while charging they started to release gas and became so hot that you could barely touch them. That’s not something you want to have in your cabin under your bed. So in the middle of our trip we had to go to a marina to get them replaced, which took us about a day. One of the deck hatches was completely broken in half and only fixed with tape. When we pointed out the problem they tried to glue the pieces of plexiglass together with silicon and added more tape. Other broken stuff was: - electric winch - Mooring light - Deck light - Green navigation light - Cockpit light - 12V DC to 230V AC Inverter (blown fuse) - several cabinet lids - small leak in seawater cooling loop of the engine Even though we were 6 people in 3 cabins we only received bedsheets for 1 cabin. And an adapter for the water hose was also missing. All around the boat we found small broken pieces of equipment and other trash probably from previous customers laying around, like post cards magazines etc. Some of the kitchen stuff like bowls and pans were not properly cleaned. The halyards, sheets, reefing lines etc. looked worn out but didn’t break. They sails were ok and the dinghy and it‘s outboard engine were good. Also the main engine worked fine apart from the small leak mentioned above. We have chartered boats at around 10 different companies before but have never seen a boat so poorly maintained. Communication also had room for improvement. Our first email and whatsapp messages where we told Midi Nautisme about the problems we had with the boat were never answered. They later told us that they didn’t receive the email and that whatsapp was only installed on the computer so they didn‘t receive these message neither. Regarding the replacement of the batteries they reacted quickly though.
Boat not cleaned well, running gear chaotic and in need of sorting, water tanks not refilled, no hose present, boat hook broken, service battery dead and barely going to charge, dinghy motor broken and no replacement, speedometer broken, no seat cushions in cockpit , not enough linens/sheets with too many towels. Luckily I didn't have any diving equipment with me. No serious instruction, fortunately I know Dufour boats well. Unfortunately, I am actually not satisfied, many basics that I otherwise find were not fulfilled.
